Our Mission Statement:

To acquire title, renovate, maintain and preserve the heritage site of St. James United Church located in the village of Spry Bay, Nova Scotia.

It is the intention of this group to assist in protecting the character and cultural integrity of the village of Spry Bay and the Eastern Shore by preserving the St. James United Church site that is considered to be an important area heritage site. It is the goal of the Friends of St. James to have the church building and cemetery site remain intact as a historic and visual reminder of the courage, faith and strength of the first settlers of the Eastern Shore.

It is the wish, of this group, to have the church building remain as a strong and constant beacon to the memory of the fishing pioneers who built, sustained it, and bequeathed it to their descendents. In keeping with preserving our sense of heritage it is the intent of this group to have St. James Church remain a strong and welcoming citadel to all future sons and daughters of these descendents.

The preserved structure will allow our future descendents a glimpse of the strength and character of people who preceded them. The structure will provide a sense of time and purpose; it is hoped that as a symbol of strength and endurance it will empower the descendents of the pioneers of the Eastern Shore so that they may to go forward in life with the same sense of continuity, strength and purpose.

The Friends of St. James U. C. Heritage Society is registered as a non-profit organization with Canada Revenue Agency (www.cra.gc.ca/charities) and offers Income Tax Receipts for donations made to the Society. We appreciate all donations made toward this project and believe that every dollar is important in our effort to complete this restoration and to provide Perpetual Care for the Cemetery. Donations may be forwarded to 28 North Street, Dartmouth, NS B2Y 1B4.
